Intro by Brian Scott:
"Nothing on earth can resist an absolutely nonresistant person. The Chinese say that water is the most powerful element, because it is perfectly nonresistant. It can wear away a rock, and sweep all before it. Jesus Christ said, “Resist not evil,” for He knew in reality, there is no evil, therefore nothing to resist.
In his Outline of History, H. G. Wells gives the names of those who he believes to be the six greatest men who ever lived, and the name of Jesus heads the list. He says Jesus is entitled to human leadership because of His doctrine of nonresistance, “the greatest truth ever uttered by man.” The others on his list are Buddha, Asoka, Aristotle, Roger Bacon, and Abraham Lincoln. An interesting list of people with a wide diversity of backgrounds—obviously picked because they took little from the world and left much.
The “thorn in the side” that we resist so strenuously may be more important than we know in the accomplishments we do make or the success we achieve.
One of the saddest things in life is man’s propensity to use force to get his way—to use the battering ram instead of the key to open doors. This tendency is the cause of most of our world conflict and most of man’s inner conflicts, which in turn cause most of his physical ills.
Without a doubt, if Jesus’ teachings of nonresistance were universally understood and practiced, we would see an end to all war, to all conflict between nations, between factions, classes, and races. And we would see the one giant step needed toward eliminating the root cause of all physical illness."
