Understanding The Matter with Things - Dialogues - Episode 1 - The Introduction

This is a series of dialogues between Iain McGilchrist and Alex Gomez-Marin exploring The Matter with Things chapter by chapter.

Dr Àlex Gómez-Marín is a Spanish physicist turned neuroscientist. He holds a PhD in theoretical physics and a Masters in biophysics from the University of Barcelona. He was a research fellow at the EMBL-CRG Centre for Genomic Regulation and at the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown in Lisbon.

His research spans from the origins of the arrow of time to the neurobiology of action-perception in flies, worms, mice, humans and robots.

Since 2016 he is the head of the Behavior of Organisms Laboratory at the Instituto de Neurociencias in Alicante, where he is an Associate Professor of the Spanish Research Council. Combining high-resolution experiments, computational and theoretical biology, and continental philosophy, his latest research concentrates on real-life cognition and consciousness.

Thank you very much for this post. It is very inspirational to listen to these two passionate explorers and many of the topics are so close to what we are learning about sahvok.

I for instance loved their conversation about the left and right hemisphere and how both give a different experience of reality.

I also loved the emphasis on the joyful journey we are all undertaking. Also something that was mentioned in Da Pah Ekara San’s last Class “A New Way of Human Being can Begin.” To remember that it is very special to be in a reality where you can for instance ask questions as “why is is the sky blue?”

A great reminder to remember to enjoy what we do in the moment, to enjoy the journey. To be touched by beauty and love.

I look forward to watching the continuation of these Dialogues.
